Why Are My Facebook Ads Not Working? 9 Fixes From 77 Real Ad Accounts

I've managed 77 ad accounts and ₹73.5L (~$88K) of spend across clinics, restaurants, D2C brands, resorts and entertainment venues. When a business owner tells me "Facebook ads don't work for us," the account almost always shows one of the same nine problems.

Here they are, with what each one looks like in your Ads Manager and what I actually do about it.

1. Wrong campaign objective

The most expensive mistake I've ever audited: a venue running a Sales objective when they wanted leads. Cost per lead: ₹21,691 (~$260). We rebuilt the same audience and creative as an instant-form lead campaign, and cost per lead fell to ₹45 (~$0.54).

Meta optimises for exactly what you ask. Ask for the wrong thing and it delivers the wrong thing, efficiently.

Reading the numbers in Ads Manager is where every fix starts.

2. Optimising for clicks when you sell offline

Traffic campaigns are for profile visits and blog readers. If your business runs on walk-ins, calls, or WhatsApp messages, a traffic objective will get you thousands of clicks from people who never buy. Switch to leads or a messaging objective and judge it on cost per conversation, not CPC.

3. No offer, just "we exist" ads

A café I work with ran generic awareness ads and got a ₹30 (~$0.36) cost per reach action. The same venue with a concrete family-offer creative pulled messaging conversations at ₹11 (~$0.13). People don't respond to logos. They respond to a reason to come in this week.

4. Creative fatigue you haven't noticed

Frequency above 3 means the same people are seeing your ad again and again. One farm-stay campaign I inherited was at 4.5 frequency and dying. Refreshing the video, with the same audience and the same budget, cut cost per lead by more than half. Check the Frequency column monthly. When it climbs and results fall, the ad is tired, not the platform.

5. Audiences that are too clever

Stacked interest targeting ("yoga AND organic food AND 30 to 45 AND...") shrinks your audience until Meta can't optimise. My best-performing lead campaign, 2,766 leads at ₹34 (~$0.40) each for an education client, ran on broad targeting with a strong video. The algorithm is better at finding your buyer than your interest stack is. Give it room.

6. Judging results in the wrong window

Owners kill campaigns on day two, before the learning phase finishes, then conclude ads don't work. Meta needs roughly 50 conversion events per week to stabilise. If your budget can't produce that against your current cost per result, optimise for a cheaper event higher in the funnel first.

7. The landing page is the problem, not the ad

A skincare brand I audited was paying ₹19 (~$0.23) per click, which is decent, but converting under 0.3% because the page took eight seconds to load on mobile. The ad account can't fix your website. Test your own page on a phone, on mobile data, before you blame the campaign.

8. No one answers the leads

This one hurts the most. A nightlife venue was generating leads at ₹2,264 (~$27) each, which is terrible, but the deeper issue was that nobody called the forms back. We moved to WhatsApp conversation ads so enquiries landed where staff already replied, and the effective cost per booked table collapsed. Leads decay by the hour. If you can't reply same-day, fix that before spending another rupee.

9. Nobody ever cuts the losers

In my own portfolio I've killed campaigns at 0.11× ROAS and walked a client out of a call campaign that had burned ₹4.79L (~$5,700) at ₹3,043 per conversion. Every account has losers. The difference between profitable and unprofitable accounts is how fast someone notices and stops them. I publish mine, wins and write-offs both, on the results page.

The fix is usually in the account, not the platform.

The pattern behind all nine

None of these are "Facebook doesn't work." All nine are settings, creative, or follow-up. Things you can see in your own Ads Manager once you know where to look.

I'm writing a free checklist that covers the first five of these in detail, and you can put your name down for it before it lands. If you'd rather someone just found these in your account now, tell me what you're running and I'll take a look.
